Big Hurt Hits 3 Jacks Jays Top Bo-Sox 6-1

There was a reason why back in his prime with the Chicago White Sox Frank Thomas was referred to as the "Big Hurt". Thomas who is now the DH for the Toronto Blue Jays showed Monday night that every once in a while he can each back to those days and still put a big hurt on his opponent. Thomas hit three home runs against the Boston Red Sox, and led the Jays to a 6-1 victory over Boston. The three jacks put him ironically in a three way tie for 18th place in MLB history with 512. He is tied with former Braves Hall of Fame player Eddie Matthews, and "Mr. Cub" Ernie Banks. Toronto starter Dustin McGowan had Boston off balance all game going the distance allowing just one run on five hits, and striking out nine. Red Sox veteran Tim Wakefield did not have great command of his knuckle ball allowing four runs on seven hits in just six innings. Boston has now seen their lead in the American League East shrink to just 3.5 games over the Yankees as New York beat Baltimore Monday night 8-5.
